Jean (Allen) Hunt
January 1, 2018

Jean (Allen) Hunt, of Gaskin Lane, Cumberland died at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center on Monday, January 1, 2018 after a short illness.  She lived in the house where her husband Irving was born for 62 years.

Born April 19, 1929, she was one of the ten children of the late Ethel (Richardson) Allen and Howard Allen.

She was predeceased by her husband, Irving, and her sisters, Dolly Holburn, Connie Riccio, Ruth Rubinacci, Shirley Quinn and Ann Williams, and her brothers Earl Allen, John Allen and Richardson Allen.

Jean is survived by her sons, Craig Bloomer of Sterling, CT, Bradford Hunt (Jennifer) and Raymond Hunt both of Cumberland, a brother Robert Allen (Caroline) of Bradenton, FL and grandchildren Beth Bloomer, Victoria Hunt and Nathaniel Hunt and several nieces and nephews.

After being active in the Cumberland Community Christian Church for over 50 years, Jeanie served on many committees even as late as 2017.  She loved her twice a week hi-lo jack games at Cumberland Senior Center and with St. Patrick's Seniors.

Those who played with or against her marveled at her bidding skills. Her sharpness and excellent memory gave rise to many interesting conversations with her partners (and opponents) in the game. She eagerly awaited the latest social news from everyone she had contact with.

Summers were spent on West Island in Fairhaven, MA for over 30 years. She leaves many friends there who remember her as hosting the "best cocktail parties on the island."

Jean worked at Ann & Hope for 15 years and the Newport Creamery for 25 years.  No matter where she went she recognized her former customers and always reminded them of her connection to them. She was "Auntie Jean" to many whether related of not.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13 at 11 o'clock at Cumberland Community Christian Church, 481 Broad Street, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 North Main St, Providence, RI 02904 or Cumberland Community Christian Church, 481 Broad St, Cumberland 02864.
