John Zuba

John Zuba, 100, of Cumberland, died Saturday, January 28, 2017. He was the husband of the late Elsie M. (Mondor) Zuba. They had been married 61 years at the time of Elsie’s passing in 2007.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the third oldest of seven children of the late Michael and Mary (Zietek) Zuba.

John had been employed as a loom fixer for Moore Fabric Company for many years until his retirement.

As a young man, he volunteered for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and when WWII broke out he joined the Army and served with the 77th Infantry and fought in the Philippines. At the age of 28, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge by his unit officers for his service in the Battle of Leyte.

John is survived by his daughter, Mary Gasse of Lincoln; sons, John H. and his wife Jean of North Providence, Edward and his wife Sheila of Cumberland, and Ronald and his wife Rebecca of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Kyle, John M., Melissa, Peter and Jeff; great grandchildren Riley, Hunter, Molly, Emma, Raymond and Violet; sister Jennie Graham of Seekonk and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the father-in-law of the late Robert Gasse and brother of the late Frank, Walter, Joseph, Pauline and Sophie Zuba.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at Noon at Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln followed by burial with military honors in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.  Visiting hours are prior to the funeral service from 10:00 – Noon.
