Violet "Vi" (Lupien) McDevitt

Violet "Vi" (Lupien) McDevitt, 96, formerly of Lincoln, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Jeanne Jugan Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late John "Jack" E. McDevitt. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Florida (Bourque) Lupien.

She is survived by her sons John E. McDevitt Jr. and his wife Maureen of Cumberland and Donald R. McDevitt and his wife Kathy of Ann Arbor, MI; her daughters-in-law, Kathy McDevitt of New Mexico and Joann McDevitt of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Leo R. McDevitt and former Senator of RI Charles E. McDevitt and the sister of the late Clarisse Finnegan and Ernest Lupien.

Violet was a civically engaged individual. She previously served as a President of St. Raphael Academy’s Auxiliary and President of Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. For over two decades she was a volunteer in the Memorial Hospital gift shop and was a member of the hospital’s Board of Trustees.

Violet was also very active in the Pawtucket Garden Club and in the Blackstone Valley Historical Society. She also loved going to the Lincoln Senior Center in her later life and enjoyed exercising with her friends. She was a well known and loved communicant of St. Jude Church in Lincoln for many years.

A Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and are invited, will be celebrated on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10:30 am in the chapel at the Jeanne Jugan Residence, 964 Main St., Pawtucket. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 am.
