Leona A. Berard, 98, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Tidewell Hospice House of Sarasota with her daughter Denise at her side. She was the devoted wife for 55 years to the late Eugene H. Berard.

Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Dolor and Leonile (Baris) Dery. Leona was a resident of Central Falls for many years with a summer residence in East Matunuck and a home in Florida. She was a communicant of St. Matthew Church (Holy Spirit Parish) and an active member of the St. Matthew Women’s Club and Les Dames de Ste. Anne. She was a homemaker in the true sense of the word, devoting her attention to her family, home and friends. She was an avid book reader, loved to grow a garden or go” quahogging”,, enjoyed crocheting and sewing,, cooking and entertaining. She was always ready for a card game and delighted her grandchildren and great grandchildren with her story telling.

Leona was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her son Charles Berard and his wife Jan of Pahrump, NV; daughters Celeste Tellier and her husband Roger of Coventry and Denise Pion and her husband Mark of North Port, FL with whom she made her home for the past 7 years. She leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews and friends. She was the mother of the late Donald Berard and mother in law of the late Anne Berard.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jennifer Morano and David of Sarasota, FL, Matthew Berard of Coventry, Rebecca Truppi of Wakefield, Sarah Schrier and Jeffrey of Arcadia, CA, Mark Tellier and Jessica of West Greenwich, Jessica Davis and Mickey of Port Charlotte, FL, Audra Lavoie and Matthew of Exeter, Michael Berard of Port Charlotte, FL, Adrienne and Jacqueline Pion of North Port, FL, and TM3 Jacques Pion of Bremerton Naval Base, WA; great grandmother of 12, Marcus and Adara Tellier, Lily and Adam Truppi, Ruby Jorge, Seth and Noah Morano, Jacob and Cailin Schrier, Lacy and Reese Davis and Aiden Lavoie. She was the mother in law of Donna Berard.

Leona was the sister of the late Aram, Roger and Bertrand Dery and Lucille Lafond.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:15 am from the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Holy Spirit Parish, Dexter St., Central Falls. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
