Mary A. Lewis

Mary A. Lewis, 101, of Lincoln, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Albert Lewis. Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary (Greevy) Crawley Crawley and the sister of the late Katherine (Crawley) Rivard, Rose O'Malley, Cecilia Crawley and Patrick Crawley.

In her youth, Mary attended many ballroom dances with her girlfriends where big bands would play. It was at one of the dances at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet that she met her future husband Al. After three years of courtship, Mary and Al were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1940.

Mrs. Lewis was a long time resident of Lincoln and a member of the town Democratic Committee and Board of Canvassers.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Rochelle and her husband Ronald of East Lyme, CT; her sons Robert Lewis and his wife Susan of Lincoln and William Lewis of Lincoln with whom she lived; her seven loving grandchildren, Mary (Rochelle) Romanowicz and her husband Michael, Todd Lewis, Brenda (Lewis) Dos Santos, Jason Rochelle and his wife Stacey, Timothy Rochelle and his wife Michelle, Deborah (Lewis) Paine and her husband Timothy and Kristyn Rochelle and her fiance John; eleven great-grandchildren Ashley, Megan, Morgan and Matthew Romanowicz, Madison, Maya and Maci Dos Santon, Lindsey and Taylor Rochelle, Bella Rochelle and Juliana Paine; and several nieces and nephews.

"Mary, Ma, Nana or Aunt Mary" as we so affectionately called her, was the matriarch of the family. Her kindness and spirit was infectious and everyone loved being in her company. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, School St., Lincoln. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Calling hours are Tuesday evening from 5-8pm at Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Avenue, Lincoln.
