Edward J. Simms Sr.

Edward J. Simms Sr., 90, of North Providence, died Monday. He was the husband of Florence A. (Tremontozzi) Simms. They were married 60 years. Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Albert H. Simms Sr. and Irene (Mc Carick) Simms.

Mr. Simms is survived by his daughters Veronica A. Hass of Rehoboth, MA and Eileen F. Crowe of Harrisville, NH, his son Edward J. Simms Jr. of Warwick and 5 grandchildren.

He was employed as an electrician for the University of RI prior to his retirement. Previous to that he worked at Zambarano Hospital in the maintenance department.

Mr. Simms was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre.

He was active in the American Legion Post 42 of Pawtucket and served as past Commander and a member of the 40 and 8 Honor Society of Legionnaires. He was also a member of the Pawtucket Veterans's Council. Previously, he was involved in the Boy Scouts. In addition, he was Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 22 in Pawtucket and created Troop 42 of Pawtucket.

His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:45 am from the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Presentation of the BVM Church, 1081 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 pm.
