John Joseph Doris, Jr., 87, died Friday, February 24, 2012. John, a lifelong resident of Cumberland, was born in Valley Falls, September 11, 1924 to John J. Doris, Sr. and Flore M. (Faubert) Doris. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 46 years, Madeleine M. (Nobert) Doris.

He is survived by four daughters and their families, Lynn F. Wilbur and Ted LaColle of Coventry, Eileen Doris Raposa and husband Paul, of Portsmouth, Cynthia Doris Kowal and husband Andrew, of Fayetteville, NC and Susan Maguire and husband Gerry, of Cranston as well as seven grandchildren: Nicholas and Colby Raposa, Allison Wilbur, Andrew and John Conor Kowal, Zachary and Molly Maguire. He is also survived by four siblings, Joseph B. Doris and Maureen F. Letourneau of Cumberland, James Robert Doris of Hope, and Patricia R. Dery of Presque Isle, ME. His sister Theresa Leckie preceded him in death.

A World War II veteran, John served in HHC 776 Anti Aircraft Artillery Bn. in England, France and Germany. He was awarded five battle participation stars, the Victory medal, European, African and Middle Eastern campaign medals and the Good Conduct medal. He was employed by New England Telephone and retired after 39 years of service. John was also a lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick's Church and a third degree member, Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas Council. John also served on the Valley Falls Fire District board of fire wardens for 12 years.

A loving family man with a great sense of humor, John was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:45 am from the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Church 309 Broad St., Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
