Leo C. Cooney, 89, of East Providence, died February 6, 2012. Born in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Elizabeth A. (McCaffrey) Cooney. He had lived in Cumberland most of his life.

Mr. Cooney was employed as an Administrative Technician for the Department of Defense USAR for 30 years. He retired in 1972.

He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of the Retired Federal Employees Chapter #13 and the VFW Post #274 Israel Couture Post.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late James J., Joseph S., William J., John T. and Edward J. Cooney, Dorothy A. Ribeiro, Mary Cooney Challis and Margaret P. Cooney.

His funeral will begin at 9:15 am on Wednesday, February 15 from the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Avenue, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Parish (St. Joseph), Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial with military honors will be in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation will be Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:15 am.
