Robert P. Stewart, Sr., 81, of Statesville, North Carolina, formerly of Lincoln, died Tuesday at Gordon Hospice Home. He was the husband of Carolyn M. (Jamieson) Stewart. They had been married 57 years. Born in Lincoln, he was a son of the late James W. and Elizabeth H. (Henry) Stewart.

Mr. Stewart was an Army veteran of World War II. He had been a member of the Saylesville Fire Dept. from 1957 - 1988. He was the Chief when he retired in 1988. He was a member of the New England Fire Chief's Association, the International Fire Chief's Association, Blackstone Valley Firemen's League and the Sayleville Firemen's Association. He was also a former president of the Tamiami Village Homeowners Association.

His sons Robert P. Stewart of Louisville, KY and John W. Stewart of Warwick, his daughters Deborah Szuluk of Katy, TX, Shirley Hartley of Katy, TX, and Susan Teeves of Annapolis, MD, his brother James Stewart of Lebanon, TN, 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews survive him. He was the brother of the late Eleanor Collins and Elizabeth Crowley.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Ave., Lincoln. Burial will be in Moshassuck Cemetery, Central Falls. Calling hours are Monday from 5-8 pm.
