William H. Lafond

William H. Lafond, 86, of Cumberland, died Friday at Grandview Center, Cumberland. He was the husband of Hilda (Santos) Lafond. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Tyrell) Lafond.

Mr. Lafond was employed as a driver/salesman for Hostess Cake until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of Local 251 retirees. Mr. Lafond was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Campaigns in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He received many medals including 3 Bronze Service Stars. He was a member of the Eugene T. Lefebvre VFW Post 1271, Melody Hill Golf Course, and Newport Friends of Jazz.

He is also survived by his son Edward "Ted" Lafond of Johnston; his daughters Diane Lafond of Cumberland and Elaine Morgan of Cumberland; 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Blanche McCabe.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:45 am from the Lincoln Funeral Home, 1501 Lonsdale Avenue, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Way, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hour are Monday from 4:30-7:30 pm.
